[info]calamityjon virtua-internet tagged my shoulder to do this thing, here-

"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to."

Which is awesome, because I have dull, dull taste in music and hardly grab new or obscure stuff and can never hold my own in a conversation about the subject. SO LET'S GO NOW, EH?

"Find the River" - Dr. Dog
Last year, music weblog Stereogum put together a compilation of covers for the fifteeth anniversary (holy fuck) of "Automatic for the People," curated by the guy who writes the Pop Songs 0X weblog. This one, by Philadelphia's own Dr.Dog, is the best of the bunch. For some reason, I always picture some huge, end of the night, rambling encore with tons of people on stage with Martin Scorsese filming it and everyone looking like Robbie Robertson. I mean this in a positive way.

"Mistadobalina" - Del Tha Funky Homosapien
I don't know. Just fun. Actually, I sought this out because Calamity Jon saw it on my gchat status one day, as it was playing on WOXY. He accused me of not actually listening to it. YOU FORCED ME TO FIND AND START ENJOYING THE HELL OUT OF THIS SONG. And others by Mr. Homosapien, actually. I'd liked his stuff with Deltron 3030 for awhile, but never bothered to look for other material.

"Lull"- Andrew Bird
Seriously, Andrew Bird is one of the best guys making music out there right now. He is strange, brilliant, talented and this song just has a great repetitive melody and some fun verbal messing around. Anyway, I like this song, along with about 90% of his other work. This is definitely one of those I can listen to over and over and over.

"I Love You More" - Boise Cover Band
A weird side project from Built to Spill's (another favorite of mine) Doug Martsch. It's an odd little collection of covers and I think this one, originally by a little-known 60s soul band (only made it to 41 on the charts) is my favorite. The combination of classic 60s soul melodies with lo-fi rock just works. Plus, nice, good old-fashioned lyrics about how much you love a chick.

"A Good Flying Bird"- Guided By Voices
Just seems like it'd be a good song for the opening credits of a tele-vision program. Definitely a sitcom or sketch program.

"LDN" - Lily Allen
I am not ashamed. I will say it - I enjoy Lily Allen. Not sure about the newly blonde hair, though. This song is a fun survey of the awful, awful city filled with awful awful people.

"Dead Flowers" - Townes Van Zandt
Off of the Big Lebowski soundtrack. Van Zandt's haggard Texas voice sells this a million times better than Mick Jagger's British rock star voice. One of my favorite recordings ever.

Now, you seven (or anyone else, really- WHOSE RULES ARE THESE?!?)-

I saw photos of Lily Allen last week and her hair was pink. She was wearing a dress of dead Bambis (not a deer dress...a satin dress with a blood-squirting Bambi printed on it). Odd.
